- 1/2 c. shortening (not oil)
- 1 1/2 c. sugar (white)
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 c. cocoa
- 1 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Cream shortening.

2Add sugar gradually and cream until fluffy. Blend in well beaten eggs.

3Slowly add hot water to cocoa and mix until smooth.

4Stir to dissolve completely.

5Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and soda.

6Add to creamed mixture alternately with the cocoa mix.

7Add vanilla.

8Bake in 8-inch square pan for 50 minutes in 350° oven.

9Done when it springs back to the touch or toothpick comes out clean when put in middle.
