Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 hot red chili pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 12 teaspoon turmeric
  • 400 g diced tomatoes
  • 1 14 cups vegetable stock
  • 14 cup yellow split peas, soaked 30 mins, rinsed & drained
  • 14 cup red lentil, rinsed & drained
  • 14 cup brown lentils, rinsed & drained
  • 14 cup chopped fresh cilantro

Directions

    Heat oil in large saucepan over high heat.

    Saute garlic, chilli and ginger for 3-4 mins until onions are tender.

    Add the cumin,ground coriander and tumeric.

    Cook, stirring for 1 minute.

    Mix in the tomatoes, stock, split peas and lentils.

    Bring to boil.

    Reduce heat & simmer, covered, about 30 mins until dhal is tender.

    Stir half the fresh cilantro through.

    Sprinkle with the remaining coriander, to garnish.
