  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

    Mix together sugar, flour, spices, soda and shortening.

    Blend in the boiling water.

    Beat eggs; pour in molasses and eggs.

    Beat well.

    Bake in a moderate oven at 350° for 40 to 45 minutes.

    Let cool in pan before taking out of pan.
