- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. molasses
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3 c. plain flour
- 1 c. buttermilk
- ginger and other spices to taste

1Mix Crisco, sugar and molasses.

2Sift flour, soda and salt. Add alternately with milk to first mixture. Add spices and vanilla. Bake in layer pans.
