Ingredients

  • 4 c. lukewarm water
  • 4 c. flour
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 4 c. additional flour (more, if needed)
  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 6 1/2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 Tbsp. salt

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in water.

    Add first 4 cups of flour and stir. Add shortening, sugar and salt, then stir.

    Add additional flour and knead until it springs back.

    Cover and let rise to double in bulk.

    Then punch down, put in loaf pans and let rise again.

    Then bake at 350° until brown, about 45 minutes.
