Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs (save 1 white for topping)
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg white, beaten stiff

Directions

    Cream the butter and gradually add granulated sugar.

    Add 1 whole egg and 1 egg yolk.

    Mix well.

    Sift in dry ingredients and mix.

    Add vanilla; mix.

    Spread 1/2-inch thick layer in jelly roll pan or 9 x 12-inch pan.

    Sprinkle nuts on top.

    Cover with topping made by combining stiffly beaten egg white and brown sugar.

    Bake at 350° about 40 minutes or until brown.

    Cut into squares while warm.
