Ingredients

  • 1 lb. stewing beef, cut into cubes
  • flour seasoned with salt and pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 pinch thyme
  • 3 c. bouillon (beef)
  • 1/2 c. red wine (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 6 whole allspice
  • 1 Tbsp. parsley
  • any vegetables except turnips (we like carrots, celery, potatoes and onions)

Directions

    Dredge meat in flour.

    Brown meat in oil in a Dutch oven. Cover meat with bouillon.

    Add bay leaves, onion, thyme, garlic, allspice, parsley and wine if desired.

    Salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for at least 2 hours or until meat is tender.

    One hour before serving, add vegetables.
