  • 6 c. sifted flour
  • 2 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2 yeast cakes
  • 1 tsp. salt

Directions

    Measure 6 cups of sifted flour.

    Combine milk, sugar and shortening in saucepan; scald, but do not boil.

    Cool to lukewarm. Add yeast cakes and let stand 5 to 10 minutes, then stir until dissolved.

    Add salt.

    Gradually beat in the sifted flour.

    Turn out on floured board and knead gently until smooth.

    Place dough in greased bowl; cover and let rise in warm place (80° to 85°) until double in size.
