  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • meat, sauce
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 celery, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley (or dried)
  • 1/2 medium carrot, grated
  • 1 (5 1/2 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1/2 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
  • cream, sauce
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 3 3/4 cups milk
  • 1 pinch each salt, pepper, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon

Directions

    Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions.

    To make meat sauce: Saute in small amount of oil, onion, garlic, celery, parsley and carrot. Add tomato paste, tomatoes and spices and sugar. Saute ground beef in skillet and add to sauce. Simmer 2 hours.

    To make cream sauce: Melt butter, add flour stirring to mix. Add milk stirring until smooth and thickened. Add remaining ingredients.

    Lightly oil a 9 x 13 inch pan, layer noodles, meat sauce, cream sauce, Parmesan and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers twice.

    Bake in 350 degree oven for 1 hour. Let stand 15 minutes before cutting.
