- 2 c. milk
- 1 yeast cake
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. cardamon seed, crushed
- 1/2 c. shortening (oil or margarine)
- 2 Tbsp. warm water
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 eggs
- 6 to 7 c. flour
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2Warm milk; add yeast and let cool.

3Add all ingredients except flour and mix.

4Add flour, a little at a time, mixing and kneading until all is used.

5Let dough rise.

6Divide into 3 parts.

7Divide each part into 3 parts.

8Roll each part in your hands to make a long tube and braid 3 parts together.

9Recipe makes 3 braided Nishua.

10Put on greased pan and let rise.

11Before baking, brush top with 3/4 tablespoon sugar and a little water for glaze.

12Bake at 350° for 25 minutes.

13Sprinkle with sugar after baking.
