Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. bacon, cut up, browned, drained and reserved
  • 1 lb. Polish sausage, thin sliced and browned
  • 1 large onion, coarsely chopped
  • 1 (15 oz.) can kidney beans
  • 1 (15 oz.) can butter beans
  • 1 (15 oz.) can lima beans
  • 1 (15 oz.) can homestyle baked beans
  • 1/2 c. ketchup
  • 1/2 c. dry red wine
  • 3 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1 or 2 cloves garlic
  • black pepper to taste
  • Tabasco to taste (add last)
  • 1 to 2 Tbsp. bacon fat

    Start with skillet.

    Brown the bacon; drain and reserve. Brown the Polish sausage; set aside.

    Saute the chopped onion in the remaining bacon fat.

    Open the kidney beans, butter beans and lima beans; drain in colander.

    Combine the remaining ingredients, except bacon fat, with above ingredients.

    Mix all above ingredients together with the bacon fat.

    Bake, uncovered at 350° for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

    Serve hot or at room temperature. Better the second day.
