  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 beaten eggs
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. baking powder

    Cream 1/4 cup margarine and 1/4 cup shortening with sugar.

    Add vanilla.

    Add eggs one at a time.

    Add alternately with 1 cup buttermilk, 2 cups flour, nutmeg, soda, baking powder and salt. Pour into greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan or 2 (9-inch) cake pans. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.
