Oatmeal Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. uncooked oatmeal
  • 1 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips, divided
  • 3/4 c. chopped walnuts

Directions

    In a mixing bowl, pour water over oatmeal and allow to stand 10 minutes. Add sugars and butter, stirring until the butter melts.

    Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Sift flour, cocoa, soda and salt together.

    Add to batter.

    Mix well. Stir in half of the chocolate chips.

    Pour into a greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

    Sprinkle top of cake with walnuts and remaining chips. Bake at 350° for 40 minutes.
