Ingredients

  • 6 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup milk powder
  • 1/4 cup baking powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 2 cups shortening
  • 1-1/2 cup Water (or more if needed)

Directions

    Mix dry ingredients together with fork.

    Cut in shortening with pastry blender.

    Stir in about 1 1/2 cups water.

    If dry add 1/4 cup more.

    Turn onto floured surface, knead 8 to 10 times.

    Roll dough 3/4 inch thick.

    Cut with biscuit cutter.

    Do not twist with biscuit cutter, just straight down and up.

    This will make them puff up more.

    Bake at 400 F. for 20-25 minutes.
