Old Fashioned Cornbread Pones

  • 3 scant c. plain cornmeal
  • 3 c. cold water
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 Tbsp. cooking oil
  • dash of salt

Directions

    Mix all dry ingredients with the water in mixing bowl with a tablespoon.

    Mixture will be slightly stiff.

    Shape pones by tablespoonful and place in 2 well-greased iron skillets.

    Press flat with spoon.

    Put drippings of oil on top of each pone.

    Place in a 450° preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes or until brown. Makes about 15 pones.
