  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 pkg. chopped dates or 2 c. raisins
  • 2 c. pecans
  • 4 c. sifted flour
  • 2 tsp. grated orange peel

    Cream butter and sugar.

    Add eggs.

    Add buttermilk and dry ingredients alternately, then add raisins and nuts (sprinkle raisins and nuts with flour).

    Bake at 300° for 1 to 1 1/2 hours in Bundt pan or angel food cake pan.

    Put topping on cake while cake is hot.

    Punch holes in cake and spoon topping on.
