  • 1 c. butter or margarine
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 lb. chopped dates
  • 1 lb. orange slice candy, chopped
  • 2 c. nuts
  • 1 small can (3 1/2 oz.) coconut

Directions

    Cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk and add to creamed mixture. Place flour in a large bowl; add dates, candy and nuts. Stir to coat each piece, then add flour mixture and coconut to creamed mixture. Bake in 10-inch tube pan 2 1/2 hours at 250°.
