Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 lb. stewing beef, cut in 1-inch cubes
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 2 (10 3/4 oz.) cans tomato soup
- 1 1/2 c. chopped onion
- 1/2 tsp. dried basil
- 4 medium potatoes, pared and cubed
- 4 medium carrots, cut in 1-inch pieces
- 1/2 c. dry red wine
- 1 c. frozen peas
Directions

1Combine flour, salt and dash of pepper; coat meat cubes in seasoned flour.

2Brown in hot shortening in Dutch oven.

3Add soup, 1 cup of water, onion and basil.

4Cover and bake in a 375° oven for 1 hour.

5Add potatoes, carrots and wine.

6Cover and bake 1 hour longer.

7Add peas and let sit, covered, about 15 minutes. Serve with buttered noodles.
