- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/4 c. water
- 1 c. milk, scalded
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 1/4 to 3 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1 beaten egg
Directions

1Soften yeast in warm water.

2Combine hot milk, shortening, sugar and salt.

3Cool to lukewarm.

4Add 1 cup flour; beat well. Beat in yeast and egg.

5Gradually add remaining flour to form a soft dough, beating well.

6Brush top lightly with soft shortening. Cover and let rise in warm place until double (1 1/2 to 2 hours). Punch down; turn out on lightly floured surface and divide dough in half.

7Roll each piece in 12 x 8-inch rectangle, about 3/8-inch thick.
