  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 3/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1/16 tsp. pepper
  • 3/4 c. butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 c. buttermilk

    Sift dry ingredients.

    Cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy.

    Add vanilla and add eggs, one at a time, beating after each egg.

    Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk.

    Put into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.

    Bake at 350° for 30 to 45 minutes or until center is done.
