Ingredients

  • 2 c. fresh basil leaves
  • 1/2 c. olive oil
  • 2 Tbsp. pine nuts (you can substitute walnuts or leave out)
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. freshly grated Parmesan or Romano cheese
  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese

Directions

    Put the basil, olive oil, pine nuts, garlic cloves and salt in the blender; mix at high speed.

    Stop from time to time and scrape the ingredients down toward the bottom of the blender with a rubber spatula.

    When the ingredients are evenly blended, pour in the cheeses and blend until the mixture is smooth.

    If pesto is too thick, add to it a tablespoon or so of the hot water in which the pasta has boiled.

    Pour the pesto sauce over your favorite hot pasta.
