- 1 bottle ruby or tawny port
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 8 Bosc pears
- 2 vanilla beans
Directions

1Combine the port and sugar in a saucepan with 2 cups water; heat until the sugar dissolves.

2Add vanilla beans.

3Peel and core pears.

4Pour on port mixture and simmer 15 to 40 minutes, until tender.

5Let pears cool in the liquid.

6Reduce the liquid to less than a cup.

7Serve individually with the liquid spooned over.
