Ingredients

  • 1 (1 lb.) can butter beans
  • 3 (1 lb.) cans Great Northern beans
  • 1 lb. bacon
  • 1/4 c. baking molasses (Brer Rabbit orange label, light and mild)
  • 1/2 c. King syrup (dark)
  • 1/2 c. dark brown sugar, packed
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 1/2 c. ketchup, thinned with water
  • 2 Tbsp. mustard
  • 1/4 tsp. vinegar
  • 1 large onion, chopped fine

Directions

    Fry bacon; drain and save 6 tablespoons grease.

    In a saucepan, warm ketchup, onion, mustard, vinegar, brown sugar, King syrup, baking molasses and bacon grease until hot.

    Stir bacon into beans, then pour sauce over beans in a baking pan.

    (Best to use an old iron pot.)

    Stir every now and then after it bubbles. Don't let it get too thick;

    best when juicy.

    Bake at 350° until the way you like them (thick or thin).
