Ingredients

  • 5 qt. popped corn (unbuttered)
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1 tsp. vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. light corn syrup
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

    Keep popcorn hot and crisp in oven (300° to 325°).

    Use candy thermometer.

    Cook sugar, water, salt and corn syrup to very hard ball stage (256°). Add vanilla and vinegar.

    Cook to light crack stage (270°).

    Pour slowly over popcorn.

    Mix well to coat every kernel.

    Press into balls before syrup hardens.

    Use lots of butter on hands as syrup is very hot.

    Makes about 1 dozen balls.
