Ingredients: 2 c. sugar; 1 c. shortening; 4 eggs; 1 c. mashed potatoes; 1/2 tsp. vanilla; 1 tsp. cloves; 1 tsp. cinnamon; 2 c. flour; 2 tsp. baking powder; 1/2 c. cocoa; 1/2 c. milk; 1 c. nuts, chopped

2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
4 eggs
1 c. mashed potatoes
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 c. milk
1 c. nuts, chopped

Directions

Cream sugar and shortening.

Add the eggs and mix well.

Add the mashed potatoes, vanilla, cloves and cinnamon.

Mix well. Sift together the flour, baking powder and cocoa.

Add to previous mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with flour.

Add nuts.

Mix well.

Bake in a greased 9 x 10-inch pan or in layers at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes.

Good with boiled white icing.
