- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 garlic clove, crushed
- 1 pt. milk
- 1/2 pt. double cream
- 1 bay leaf
- salt and pepper
- 2 1/2 lb. potatoes, peeled
- 2 oz. fresh bread crumbs
Directions

1Place onion and garlic clove in a large saucepan with milk, cream and bay leaf.

2Slowly bring to boiling point and immediately remove from heat.

3Let cool for 30 minutes.

4Discard clove of garlic and bay leaf.

5Season.

6Thickly slice potatoes.

7Add to milk and bring to a boil, then remove immediately from heat.

8Using a draining spoon, transfer potato slices to a large shallow ovenproof dish.

9Pour milk over and sprinkle with the bread crumbs.

10Bake at 350° for 1 1/4 hours, or until potatoes are tender and golden brown.
