- 1 c. butter or margarine
- 2 c. sugar
- 4 eggs, separated
- 3 c. cake flour, sifted
- 1 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Cream butter or margarine with sugar until light.

2Add egg yolks, one at a time, and beat until fluffy.

3Combine sifted cake flour with cream of tartar and soda.

4Sift again.

5Add to the batter alternately with the buttermilk.

6Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.

7Bake in 9 x 13-inch greased and floured pan at 350° for 50 minutes.

8Remove from oven and spread with topping.
