  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • coarse salt

Directions

    Dissolve the yeast in warm water.

    Add salt, sugar and flour. Knead the dough until smooth, adding more flour (up to 1 cup) if dough is sticky.

    Divide dough into walnut-size pieces.

    Each child rolls his ball into a 12 to 14-inch rope and shape.

    Brush them with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.

    Let rest on cookie sheet, uncovered, for 15 minutes.

    Bake at 425° for 15 to 18 minutes.
