Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 c. lukewarm water (90~ to 100~)
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 beaten egg
  • coarse salt

Directions

    Dissolve yeast and sugar in water.

    Add salt and flour.

    Knead dough on floured board until smooth (3 to 5 minutes).

    Cut off 4 inch pieces of dough; roll into ropes 6 to 8 inches long.

    Twist into pretzel shapes.

    Arrange on lightly greased cookie sheet. Brush egg over tops (those places missed will not brown).

    Sprinkle with coarse salt.

    Bake 12 to 15 minutes at 425°.

    Pretzels will be shiny brown.

    Serve within two days or freeze for later.
