- 2 c. self-rising cornmeal
- 1 c. sifted self-rising flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 1/4 c. buttermilk
- 2 Tbsp. vegetable shortening, melted
Directions

1Preheat oven to 375°.

2Grease and flour 9 x 5 x 3-inch pan; set aside.

3Combine cornmeal, flour and sugar in bowl.

4Add buttermilk and shortening; blend thoroughly. Pour into prepared pan.

5Let stand 15 minutes.

6Bake 45 minutes or until golden brown.

7Cover pan with kitchen towel.

8Let stand until cool. Serve warm with butter or cool with sliced ham or turkey.
