Ingredients
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1 c. warm water
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 egg
- 1 Tbsp. shortening
- 2 3/4 c. flour
- 1 egg white
- 1 Tbsp. water
- poppy or sesame seed
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in 1 cup of warm water in a large bowl.

2Add sugar, salt, egg, shortening and 1 cup of flour.

3Beat until smooth.

4Stir in remaining flour and continue stirring until smooth.

5Scrape batter from side of bowl.

6Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled (30 minutes).

7Stir batter and turn onto floured surface.

8Divide into 12 equal parts.

9Shape into smooth ball with lightly greased fingers.

10Place in greased 9 x 9-inch pan.

11Let rise until doubled (20 to 30 minutes).

12Beat egg white and 1 tablespoon of water slightly and brush over rolls.

13Sprinkle with seed.

14Bake at 400° for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Yields 12 rolls.
