Quick Rolls Or Raised Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 3 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1 c. Crisco
  • 5 c. self-rising flour (White Lily)
  • 2 c. buttermilk (room temperature)
  • 1/4 c. sugar

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in the warm water and set aside.

    Mix flour, sugar and soda, then cut in Crisco shortening and the buttermilk to the yeast mixture.

    Mix all ingredients well.

    Dough will be stiff.

    Turn out on well floured surface.

    Knead about 20 times with hands.

    Roll out and cut with 2-inch biscuit cutter.

    Place in pan.

    Cover with moist tea towel and let stand at room temperature for 1 hour.

    Bake at 350° for 10 to 15 minutes.

    Brush with melted margarine.

    Serve while warm.
