- 1 1/4 c. milk, scalded
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 1/2 Tbsp. salt
- 1 cake yeast
- 5 c. sifted flour
- 3 eggs
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp. mace
Directions

1Combine milk, shortening and salt; cool to lukewarm.

2Add yeast.

3Let stand 5 minutes.

4Add 2 1/2 cups flour; beat until smooth.

5Cover; let rise until bubbly.

6Add eggs and sugar mixed with spices.

7Mix well.

8Add enough remaining flour to make dough that can be kneaded.

9Let rise until doubled in bulk.

10Roll out 1/2-inch thick.

11Cut into doughnuts.

12Let raise on doughboard until double in bulk.
