  • 1 1/2 c. raisins
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. broken English walnuts

Directions

    Cook raisins in water slowly for 20 minutes.

    Cool, drain and save liquid.

    Cream sugar, egg and shortening.

    Add enough water to liquid to make 3/4 cup in all.

    Sift flour, salt and soda.

    Add to creamed mixture alternately with liquid.

    Add raisins and walnuts.

    Fill buttered round bean cans or tomato cans 1/2 full and bake in 350° oven for 45 minutes for bean can/1 hour for tomato cans.
