Ingredients

  • 1 c. milk
  • 3 Tbsp. margarine
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 yeast cakes
  • 4 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. walnut pieces

Directions

    Heat milk to warm.

    Add shortening, sugar and salt.

    Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup lukewarm water and add to mixture when it is cooled to 125°.

    Add 2 cups flour and beat until smooth.

    Cover and let rise for 1 hour.

    Add raisins and nuts and enough flour to make firm dough.

    Knead thoroughly and shape into loaf.

    Place in greased loaf pan and let rise until doubled.

    Bake at 325° for 50 minutes.
