Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine
  • 2 c. water
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 c. raisins
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 4 scant c. flour

Directions

    Place sugar, butter, water, soda, raisins, cinnamon, salt, cloves, nutmeg and ginger in larger pot and heat until boiling and butter has melted.

    Let cool overnight.

    Sift baking powder and flour together and stir into raisin mixture.

    Bake at 325° for 1 1/2 hours in 2 medium loaf pans with bottom lined with wax paper, greased and floured.

    Brush tops of loaves with jam while still hot.
