- 2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. butter or margarine
- 2 c. water
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 c. raisins
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 4 scant c. flour
Directions

1Place sugar, butter, water, soda, raisins, cinnamon, salt, cloves, nutmeg and ginger in larger pot and heat until boiling and butter has melted.

2Let cool overnight.

3Sift baking powder and flour together and stir into raisin mixture.

4Bake at 325° for 1 1/2 hours in 2 medium loaf pans with bottom lined with wax paper, greased and floured.

5Brush tops of loaves with jam while still hot.
