  • 3/4 c. chopped walnuts
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. boiling water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour

Directions

    Mix walnuts, raisins, baking soda and salt with a fork.

    Add shortening and water.

    Let stand 20 minutes.

    Heat oven to 350°. Add to this mixture the eggs, vanilla, sugar and flour, mixing only to blend.

    Pour into greased and floured loaf pan.

    Bake 1 hour.
