- 3/4 c. chopped walnuts
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1 c. granulated sugar
- 1 c. raisins
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. boiling water
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
Directions

1Mix walnuts, raisins, baking soda and salt with a fork.

2Add shortening and water.

3Let stand 20 minutes.

4Heat oven to 350°. Add to this mixture the eggs, vanilla, sugar and flour, mixing only to blend.

5Pour into greased and floured loaf pan.

6Bake 1 hour.
