- 5 cups flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 (1/4 ounce) package dry yeast
- 1/2 cup water (warm)
- 2 cups buttermilk (room temperature)
Directions

1Dissolve yeast into 1/2 warm water, set aside.

2Sift together first five ingredients.

3Using 2 knives cut in 1/2 cup shortening into mix till mixture in pea like in size; add dissolved yeast.

4Add buttermilk and mix well.

5Roll out on floured surface to 1/2 inch thickness.

6Use a round cookie cutter or just cut into squares.

7Bake at 400°F 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

8Brush tops with melted butter.
