Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped yellow onion
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • Vegetable oil, as needed
  • 1 can (14 1/2 ounces) crushed tomatoes in thick puree
  • 1 can (14 1/2 ounces) diced or ready-cut Italian-recipe tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • Freshly ground pepper to taste
  • 12 ounces spaghetti, cooked according to package directions and drained
  • Freshly grated Parmesan cheese for sprinkling on top

Directions

    In a large skillet over medium heat, combine beef, onion, and garlic and saute, breaking up the meat with a spoon, until meat is browned and vegetables are tender, 6 to 7 minutes, adding a little oil if needed.

    Add tomatoes, tomato sauce, wine, basil, oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper and simmer, uncovered, until flavors are blended, 10 to 20 minutes.

    Serve over spaghetti, sprinkled with Parmesan.
