- 1 medium head red cabbage
- 1 medium sweet onion
- 2 large apples
- 1 Tbsp. oleo
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 1/4 c. water
- 1 c. vinegar
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 whole allspice
- 2 cloves
- 6 peppercorns
Directions

1Wash and remove outer leaves of cabbage.

2Remove core and slice.

3Peel and slice onion.

4Peel and core apples.

5Toss together.

6Add rest of ingredients to mixture.

7Simmer in oleo 1 1/2 hours, covered.

8Thicken slightly with small amount of cornstarch by using some of the juice to mix with cornstarch. Make paste and add gradually to cabbage while stirring.

9Serves 4 to 6.
