  • 2 tart apples
  • 1/2 bay leaf
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 cloves
  • 1/2 c. red wine vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 tsp. sugar, salt and pepper

    Put cabbage, apples, bay leaf, salt and cloves into bowl. Pour vinegar over mixture; mix well.
