  • 1 onion
  • 1 9/16 tablespoons lard or butter
  • salt to taste
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar to taste
  • water
  • 1 3/8 cups chestnuts vacuum-packed

    Wash and cut the cabbage into medium sized pieces.

    Mince the onion.

    Heat the butter in a large skillet.

    Saute the onion for a few minutes and add the red cabbage.

    Mix and season with salt, pepper, and sugar.

    Cook for a few minutes.

    Add a little water just to wet the mixture and cover the pan.

    Continue cooking for 30 minutes on low heat. Stir occasionally.
