- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 c. cake flour
- 3 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 Tbsp. baking soda
- 1 Tbsp. vinegar
- 2 Tbsp. red food coloring
Directions

1Cream together the shortening and sugar. Add and beat until fluffy the eggs.

2Sift together the flour and cocoa.

3Add alternately with buttermilk.

4Dissolve the baking soda in the vinegar. Add to batter.

5Mix in the food coloring.

6Pour into greased and floured cake pans and bake at 350° for 25 minutes.
