- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 oz. red food coloring
- 2 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 2 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 Tbsp. vinegar
Directions

1Cream Crisco, sugar and eggs.

2Make a paste of the food coloring and cocoa; add to the first mixture.

3Add salt, flour, buttermilk and vanilla; mix well.

4Mix in, but do not beat, the vinegar and soda.

5Bake in 2 (9-inch) or 3 (8-inch) pans at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes.
