- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 oz. red food coloring
- 1 tsp. soda, dissolved in 1 Tbsp. vinegar
Directions

1Cream the Crisco, sugar and eggs.

2Sift 3 times flour, cocoa and salt.

3Add alternately to creamed mixture with buttermilk, then add vanilla and food coloring.

4Beat well.

5Fold in soda dissolved with vinegar.

6Bake in 2 (8-inch) pans at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.

7Cool on cake racks.
