- 1 lb pinto beans
- 1 cup onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup lard
Directions

1Soak pinto beans in 6 cups of water overnight.

2Drain and rinse beans.

3Replace 6 cups of water, add chopped onion.

4Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 3 hours, stirring a few times.

5When done, mash beans with potato masher or hand blender.

6Add lard (or bacon fat).

7Salt to taste.

8Continue cooking until thick and grease is absorbed.
