- 3/4 c. hot water
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 2 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1 c. warm (not hot) water
- 1 egg, beaten
- 5 1/4 c. (about) sifted all-purpose flour
Directions

1Combine hot water, sugar, salt and shortening.

2Cool to lukewarm.

3Sprinkle yeast over warm water in a large mixing bowl; stir until dissolved.

4Stir in lukewarm water mixture.

5Add egg and 2 1/2 cups of the flour; beat until smooth.

6Stir in remaining flour and beat

8Dough will be soft.

9Place dough in greased bowl; brush top with soft shortening.

10Cover tightly with wax paper or aluminum foil.

11Store in refrigerator until doubled in bulk.

12(Dough may be kept 1 week in refrigerator at about 40° to 45°.)
