  • 5 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. chopped pecans
  • 2 oz. sweet chocolate
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 2 c. butter
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 c. chopped candied cherries
  • few drops red food coloring

    Sift flour and measure.

    Add salt and baking powder.

    Cream butter and sugar.

    Add eggs and vanilla.

    Add flour, a little at a time.

    Divide into 3 parts.

    Add cherries and food coloring to 1, melted chocolate and nuts to the second and leave the third plain. Line a bread pan with wax paper.

    Pack chocolate dough on bottom, plain in the center and cherry dough on top.

    Cover and put in refrigerator overnight.

    Turn out of pan.

    Cut into 3 strips and slice thin.

    Bake at 350° for 10 to 12 minutes.
