Rice Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 can onion soup (not cream-style)
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 c. regular rice
  • 1 (4 oz.) can chopped mushrooms
  • 1 can water chestnuts, chopped
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/4 c. slivered almonds

Directions

    Melt butter in heavy saucepan.

    Lightly brown rice in the melted butter.

    Add soup, water, mushrooms and water chestnuts. Bring to a boil.

    Add almonds.

    Pour into a covered 2-quart casserole.

    Cook at 350° for 1 hour.

    Do not open while cooking. (This is very good with roast beef, pork or any kind of fowl.

    If you like a one-dish meal, brown both sides of several pork chops and place on top of rice and bake for same time.)
