- 1/2 c. butter or oleo
- 2 tsp. white or cider vinegar
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 3 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 c. sugar
- 6 Tbsp. cocoa
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 c. water
Directions

1Melt butter over medium heat; remove from heat.

2Stir in vinegar, vanilla and 2 cups water.

3Set aside.

4Measure flour and next 4 ingredients.

5Mix with butter mixture until smooth.

6Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes.

7Use greased 13 x 9-inch or round layer pans.

8After removing from oven, let cool 20 minutes in pan. Remove and cool on racks until completely cool.

9Frost with your favorite frosting.
